Though I admire Barbara Tfank's 60s flare, I'm not impressed with the First Lady's pick. The overall look is too juvenile given Michelle Obama's stature and position. Her hair and makeup are flawless, but the volume of the dress is unflattering and the bolero chops her height, making her look like a little girl playing tea party.

This is the second time that Michelle Obama has bungled her Buckingham Palace attire. What's the issue? This is a clear example of why women should dress for their tastes and their body types, rather than dressing for those around them. Michelle Obama knows that the Queen is going to wear a precious tea-length dress and accessorize with a coordinating bag and hat--but that doesn't mean she needs to do it, too. She also knows that she stuns in a fitted sheath dress--and judging by the attire of the Queen's new granddaughter-in-law, I doubt anyone would think it inappropriate for Michelle Obama to wear what looks best on her body. She could even add a cardigan if she doesn't want to show her arms.
Speaking of the Duchess of Cambridge, she is a woman who knows how to dress for her body type. Although a bandage sheath dress from a chain store wouldn't necessarily be the obvious choice for entertaining foreign dignitaries, Catherine Middleton looks elegant and, most importantly, completely at ease.

And, that's more than I can say for the First Lady, who is typically flawless but suddenly standing awkwardly in a bubblegum pink bolero.
